Cinema – Spencer 12A

Set over the Christmas period at Sandringham, this is a picture of what might have happened as the marriage of Princess Diana and Prince Charles has gone cold and there is a rumour of divorce.  There is eating and drinking, shooting and hunting as usual but this year, things will be very different.  An eerily real performance by Kristen Stewart as Diana but equally fine turns from Timothy Spall, Sally Hawkins and Jack Farthing.  An exercise in claustrophobia and tension this is not a fairy tale but a beautifully crafted and introspective look at Diana.
