Stradbroke Allotments are a purpose built site situated on the edge of the village off Drapers Hill. Surrounded by rabbit proof fencing and hedging and on a North/South slope, we are ideally situated.
We have the advantage of running water, although we recommend water butts if you have a shed on your plot to save water.
We also have a composting toilet, raised beds and a community shed where we run willow sculpture and other craft work shops throughout the year. It has a sink with running water which is ideal to use for our cream teas in the summer months.
We hold lots of fund raising events like cake and produce stalls in the village including open days to help raise funds to cover insurance and water bills.
We have a produce stall just outside the allotments , where we sell some of our surplus vegetables and fruit to the public. We also look after the orchard next to the allotments .We are a friendly like minded bunch of plot holders and are always happy to show you around the site.
The allotments are surrounded by wild flower meadows, which are fantastic for bees and butterfly’s and has a stunning view of the village of Stradbroke and the Church.
You can take this all in by following the footpath around the edge of the plots and around the beautiful meadow up to the wildlife pond at the top.
It is a wildlife haven for flora and fauna and Woodpeckers, Buzzards, Kestrels, Owls and even a Red Kite have all been spotted flying over the site.
The Hedgehogs and Voles and Shrews have all made their homes in this Area.
The site is owned by the Stradbroke Charitable Trust and managed by the Stradbroke Allotment and Gardeners’ Association. There is a small fee for membership.
